Kesari is a period war drama film, based on the Battle of Saragarhi where 21 Sikhs fought against 10,000 Afghans in 1897. The Battle of Saragarhi was fought between Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army and Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen. Saragarhi was a small village in the border district of Kohat, situated on the Samana Range, in present-day Pakistan. Akshay is playing the role of Havildar Ishar Singh in the film while Parineeti Chopra is playing the role of Eesha, Akshay Kumar sister.
